Our client came to us in June 2024 after being charged a substantial $187,364.53 in legal fees for their family law matter. By that point, they had already paid $102,917.71, leaving an outstanding balance of $84,371.82, including interest.
We began by preparing a Calderbank offer in an attempt to resolve the matter through negotiation. When the former lawyer failed to respond — and with critical time limits approaching — we acted swiftly and filed a summons for taxation in the Supreme Court of Victoria, Costs Court.
As part of the process, we obtained orders to prepare a detailed notice of objections, after which the matter was placed in the hands of the Court. A notice of estimate was subsequently issued, with no objections raised by either party. Final court orders followed shortly after.
The outcome? The Court ordered our client to pay just $56,867.29, representing a 33% reduction in legal fees.
An exceptional result that delivered significant financial relief — and an extremely happy client.
