Lemeez Chilwan is an attorney and notary public admitted in South Africa and is also an accredited divorce mediator. Lemeez graduated from The University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg in 2014. She has eleven years of experience in legal costs which includes five years of being in private practice running her own legal costs consultancy in Johannesburg. Lemeez joined our team in July 2023 after a twenty- year absence from Melbourne,her second home.
In addition to her experience in family law and commercial law, Lemeez has extensive knowledge in drafting, taxing and settling third party bills of costs. Since joining Law in Check, Lemeez has prepared complex notices of objections, drafting letters providing preliminary advice to clients as well as preparing Calderbank letters.
During the past six months, Lemeez has familiarized herself with the various legal costing systems of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. She has also submitted an article on gross sum legal costs for publication in the Law Institute of Victoria’s special edition on costs.
On 15 January 2024, Lemeez flew to London for a six-month secondment with an affiliate costing firm in the UK which specializes in court of protection costs.
